Ethiopia’s army reform continues:\u00a0PM Abiy Ahmed appointed\u00a0 Seare Mekonnen as new army chief of staff.\u00a0 Seare Mekonnen has a specialist\u2019s background on Eritrea, which proves once again that Ethiopia is ready to make peace with the country days after authorities said\u00a0they\u2019d implement\u00a0a peace deal with their\u00a0northern neighbour.<\/p>\n

Named one of three deputy chiefs of staff earlier this year, Seare also previously headed the military\u2019s northern command, whose jurisdiction covers areas bordering Eritrea.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed pledged in April that the country will \u201cresolve problems\u201d with Eritrea.<\/span><\/div>\n
