{"id":12865,"date":"2019-02-15T10:40:51","date_gmt":"2019-02-15T09:40:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ethiopianembassy.be\/?p=12865"},"modified":"2019-02-15T10:40:52","modified_gmt":"2019-02-15T09:40:52","slug":"united-states-injects-40-million-into-ethiopias-health-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ethiopianembassy.be\/?p=12865","title":{"rendered":"United States Injects $40 Million Into Ethiopia\u2019s Health Sector"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"748\" height=\"498\" src=\"https:\/\/ethiopianembassy.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/Healthcare-Ethiopia-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12866\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ethiopianembassy.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/Healthcare-Ethiopia-1.jpg 748w, https:\/\/ethiopianembassy.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/Healthcare-Ethiopia-1-600x399.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ethiopianembassy.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/Healthcare-Ethiopia-1-272x182.jpg 272w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 748px) 100vw, 748px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The United States launched yesterday a new five-year 40 million US dollars Health Financing Improvement Program to invest in expanding Ethiopia\u2019s capacity to provide quality affordable healthcare to citizens across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the new program, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will work with the Ministry of Health to strengthen policy and financing reforms that will enable public and private entities to better provide primary health services while reducing out-of-pocket expenses for Ethiopians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the next five years, the new program will focus on mobilizing increased domestic resources and streamlining medical insurance schemes to expand coverage to millions of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project will also work with public and private healthcare providers to better utilize resources and revenues to finance their services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>USAID\u2019s Health Financing Improvement Program builds upon the successes of earlier investments like USAID\u2019s community-based health insurance initiative, which currently provides medical coverage to nearly 20 million Ethiopians nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>USAID Mission Director Leslie Reed remarked, \u201cWe look forward to continuing our joint work to tackle the challenges facing health financing as part of overall efforts to build a truly sustainable and resilient health system in Ethiopia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, we can show other developing countries around the world that with the right political will and commitment, it is possible to lay the promising foundation to a self-reliant healthcare system, capable of providing high-quality health services to all citizens in every corner of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>U.S. development programs like the Health Financing Improvement program invest in the capacity of Ethiopian institutions and the Ethiopian people to address their own needs and become stronger partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The United States is the largest bilateral donor to Ethiopia\u2019s health sector, with approximately 150 million US dollars per year in funding for HIV\/AIDS; malaria; maternal, neonatal and child health; nutrition; tuberculosis; and water, sanitation and hygiene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, the United States has provided over $4 billion in development and humanitarian assistance to Ethiopia over the past five years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The United States launched yesterday a new five-year 40 million US dollars Health Financing Improvement Program to invest in expanding Ethiopia\u2019s capacity to provide quality affordable healthcare to citizens across the country.
