Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has called for unity during the togetherness and thanksgiving Iftar (fast-breaking) dinner held at the Millennium Hall yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at\nthe occasion, Abiy said: “The unity of Muslims is tantamount to the unity\nof the whole country.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We\nlook good when we come together and unite,” he told thousands of Muslims\nwho gathered to attend the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Muslims\naccount for more than 34% of Ethiopia’s more than 100 million population. Since\ncoming to power in 2018, Abiy has allowed them to move ahead with a plan to\ninstitute an elected Majlis (Supreme Council).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The iftar\nwas organized at Millennium Hall by the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme\nCouncil to thank the prime minister for winning hearts of his Muslim country\npeople.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further\npledged that the government would support the construction in Addis Ababa of a\ngrand mosque for Muslims to come together on events such as Eid al Adha and Eid\nal Fitr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the\nmosque would symbolize the iconic Abyssinian Emperor Negashi who treated\ncompanions of Prophet Muhammad well when they fled persecution in Mecca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prime\nMinister also said the government would provide the necessary support for the\nestablishment of an Islamic bank in Ethiopia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
