Marking Africa Day, Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed has called for strengthened solidarity across the continent.<\/p>\n

Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity on 25 May 1963.<\/p>\n

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said \u201cAs we celebrate Africa Day today, let\u2019s strengthen our solidarity for the Africa we want.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOur vibrant and diverse continent with many assets is destined for multidimensional prosperity,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

In connection with the day, the African Union (AU) has created an AU COVID-19 Response Fund with the aim of strengthening the continental response to COVID-19.<\/p>\n

A target of $1million has been set for the day, said AU in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis AfricaDay, 25 May, all Africans, people of African descent and friends of Africa are encouraged to \u2018give a little\u2019 to the fund,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n

Contributions can be made in any currency and money raised under the Fund will be used to mitigate the social, economic, and humanitarian impact of COVID-19 in all African countries.<\/p>\n
