Ambassador Eshete Tilahun held substantive discussion in relation to the dynamics about migration and returnees with Mr. Peter Schuurman, Special Envoy for Migration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the accompanying team from both sides on 20 February 2025.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Their discussion was focusing on cooperation and efforts pertaining to repatriating undocumented Ethiopian citizens, the need for strengthening resettlement schemes and development cooperation for long-term partnership on migration.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
During the meeting, Mr. Peter acknowledged the significant progress made in the safe and orderly repatriation process. He also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to ensure effective implantation of commitments including reintegration. He appreciated the discussion held with Migration and Citizenship Service Officials during his visit to Ethiopia two weeks ago and called for more similar interactions.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

On his part, Ambassador Eshete expressed appreciation to the Special Envoy for the practical efforts to resolve the issue and recalled the importance of Ethiopia-Netherlands authorities’ coordination to facilitate that both sides deliver as agreed. He underscored that successful repatriation requires a multi-stakeholder approach and highlighted the need to recognizing the interdependence of efforts.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
