H.E. Ambassador Willem van de Voorde conveyed Belgium’s enthusiasm for the African Climate Summit scheduled to be held in Ethiopia, September 2025. The Special Envoy also highlighted the dedication of his country to advocate on issues of climate and environmental concerns. Noting that participation in the summit aligns with the global call and the commitment of Ethiopia and Belgium. Belgium aims to be a key partner in driving systemic change, utilizing its climate expertise in policy discussions. The Special Envoy also explained Belgium’s candidacy to host the secretariat of the BBNJ Treaty.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Ambassador Eshete on his part warmly welcomed the Envoy and underlined the importance of working together on the preparation of the African Climate Summit. He emphasized the need for global collaboration on climate and environmental issues. He also noted Ethiopia\u2019s commitment to a green economy through significant investment in renewable energy and the flagship Green Legacy Initiative.
