Brussels, Belgium \u2013 Today 31 May 2025, the Embassy of Ethiopia in Brussels hosted a colorful and well-attended Ethiopian Day celebration, with enthusiastic participation from members of the Ethiopian diaspora community across the BENELUX region. The event served as a vital platform to honor Ethiopia\u2019s rich cultural heritage and strengthen unity among Ethiopians living in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

His Excellency Eshete Tilahun, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the BENELUX and the European Union Institutions, delivered keynote remarks highlighting the national significance of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe are now at the final stage of completing the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam,\u201d Ambassador Eshete stated. \u201cWe are proud that our nation has built this monumental project without foreign aid or loans, relying solely on its own resources and the unity and determination of its people. The GERD is a symbol of our commitment to sovereignty, resilience, and strategic vision for economic independence.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The celebration marked a crucial moment in Ethiopia\u2019s development journey, as the GERD nears completion, representing a true renaissance of the country and all rounded efforts toward sustainable energy and economic self-reliance. In support of this national aspiration, GERD bonds were sold during the event, with significant funds raised demonstrating the diaspora’s ongoing determination to Ethiopia\u2019s growth.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

To recognize outstanding contributions, Ambassador Eshete awarded certificates of appreciation to the Ethiopian Diaspora Associations. Outstanding individual community members who bought bond and donate funds have also received certificates. Honorees were acknowledged for their dedication to Ethiopia\u2019s national aspirations, development goals, and for actively supporting the GERD through bond purchases and donations.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The celebration, attended and joyfully celebrated by the diaspora community, concluded with a colorful display of Ethiopia\u2019s vibrant traditions, including live music, traditional dance, and authentic cuisine.
