Egyptian Foreign Ministry Sameh Shoukry met with Ethiopian Foreign Minister Tedros Adhanom\u00a0(Photo Ministry of Foreign Affairs Handout)Egyptian and Ethiopian foreign ministers, Sameh Shoukry and Tedros Adhanom respectively, agreed to maintain momentum on the Nile water talks on Saturday as Shoukry assured Adhanom the Egyptian president is to make an official visit to Ethiopia, the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.\u00a0Shoukry met with Adhanom and several foreign ministers of different African states on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.\u00a0Ethiopia is expected to host the fifth annual Joint Ministerial Commission in Addis Ababa on 1 November, where ministers will set an action plan regarding the Renaissance Dam, the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.\u00a0According to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement, the two ministers discussed developments in bilateral relations, especially in terms of \u201ceconomic cooperation, trade, and investment.\u201d\u00a0The two ministers also discussed \u201cin depth\u201d the regional situations in Libya and South Sudan.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Shoukry also met the South Sudanese Foreign Minister Barnaba Benjamin, and explained to him Egypt\u2019s \u201cincreasing worries\u201d regarding the \u201ccontinuity of conflict and instability\u201d in the country.\u00a0He reassured Benjamin that Egypt is \u201ccommitted to supporting development programmes and the rebuilding of South Sudan,\u201d the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement.\u00a0Ali Karty, the Sudanese foreign minister, also met with Shoukry who informed him that \u201cEgypt has been carefully keeping up with national talks in Sudan.\u201d\u00a0Shoukry expressed appreciation towards the African Union\u2019s chief mediator Thabo Mbeki. \u201cEgypt recognises the efforts he had been making with the opposition,\u201d the Egyptian foreign ministry said, adding that it hopes for more \u201cpeace and national cooperation in Sudan\u201d.\u00a0The ministry added that there has been a \u201cpositive momentum\u201d regarding investments between Egypt and Sudan after the Egyptian president\u2019s last visit to the Sudanese capital Khartoum.<\/p>\n

Shoukry also met with his Eritrean counterpart Uthman Saleh, and the two discussed further strengthening bilateral relations between the two states in a number of different fields over the upcoming period.\u00a0Saleh expressed gratitude towards Egypt\u2019s increasing investments in Eritrea, the statement said.<\/p>\n

In all of the General Assembly sideline talks, Shoukry discussed the regional crises in Libya with all of the representatives. He also discussed the \u201cthreat of terrorism\u201d with all of the foreign ministers.\u00a0Egypt signed a joint communiqu\u00e9 calling for ceasefire and supporting the Libyan House of Representatives last Monday.
