New visa procedures starting from Nov 10, 2020

Dear clients of the Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Brussels. We hereby inform you that applications for all types of visa should follow our new visa procedures.

Starting from 10/11/2020, all visa applicants should apply on this address: the www.evisa.gov.et 

The new visa procedure is open to applicants of all nationalities.

Tourist visa requirements

  1. Current passport and the passport must be valid  for at least six months;
  2. One recent passport-size photograph.
  3. Copy of Resident Permit or Work Permit (for Non-Benelux Nationals)
  4. Dully filled visa application form (click here to download the form)

Business/working visa requirements

  1. A completed visa application form (click here to download the application form) and current passport. The passport must be valid for at least more than six months.
  2. One recent passport-size photograph.
  3. Copy of Resident Permit or Work Permit (for Non-Benelux countries National)
  4. Visa approval letter from the Ethiopian Main Department for Immigration and Nationality Affairs.

Application Structure for film shooting in Ethiopia

Regarding requests related to film shooting permits in Ethiopia, any interested Media,

Company or individual residing in the Benelux countries hereby encouraged to contact the Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Brussels during working hours of the Embassy. The request for the permit must be submitted to the Embassy in a formal written letter before departure of film shooting crews or journalists to Ethiopia. This condition is a requirement not only for issuance of business visas but also for the purpose of earlier transfer of pertinent documents to the Government Communications Affairs Office.

The procedure related to the application process of the film shooting/ reporting permit must encompass the following:

  1. Introduction about request:
  2. a) A formal letter addressed to the Embassy requesting for the permit
  3. b) Brief introduction of the film shooting Media/ Institution/ Group/ Individual.
  4. Content of the application:
  5. a) The name of the film making organization/unit/individual,
  6. b) The name, passport number and nationality of the film shooting crew,
  7. c) The purpose and title of the film,
  8. d) A copy of the film script along with its synopsis if the production is a feature film,
  9. e) A synopsis of the film if the production is a documentary film,
  10. f) Duration of the film shooting process and the exact location chosen for the film shooting in Ethiopia,
  1. g) Estimated cost of producing the film,
  2. h) Name and address of the contact person including telephone numbers and

E-mail of the partner organization, team of individual in Ethiopia, if any.

  1. The applicant should also submit together with the above:
  2. a) List of equipment needed for shooting the film in Ethiopia,
  3. b) Two passport size photographs of each film shooting team member
  4. All applicants who wish to use an aircraft for shooting a film in the territories of Ethiopia must obtain a flight permit from the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority
  1. Applicants are required to appear before the Office of Government Communication, Foreign Media Accreditation Department, to effect the stipulated payment and obtain the permit.
  1. All members of the film shooting team need to obtain their Business Visas from the Embassy, here in Brussels.
  1. Arrival and departure to and from Ethiopia must be specified (Flight No./Date/Time) up on requesting the application documents to the Embassy.

Note

The letter to the Customs Office for clearance of equipment’s can be issued at the Airport if partners of the film shooting crew in Ethiopia could contact the Government Communications Office in advance for automatic admission on arrival.

Afterwards the film shooting team must appear in person and sign an undertaking to adhere to the conditions of the permit and respect the laws of the country.

Online (e-Visa)

Since 12 June 2017, certain international visitors to Ethiopia can apply for their tourist visas (e-Visa) online.

The e-Visa is processed and issued online by the Main Department of Immigration and Nationality Affairs, where applicants apply, pay and secure their entry visa.

Eligibility and How to Apply

E-visas can only be issued to foreign nationals who are coming from and are permanent residents in any of the following internationally recognised tourist-generating countries:

  • Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea Republic, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States.

The e-Visa is processed and issued online by the Main Department of Immigration and Nationality Affairs, where applicants apply, pay and secure their entry visa.

Once the online application is approved, applicants will receive an email authorizing them to travel to Ethiopia and they will get their passport stamped with the visa upon arrival in Addis Ababa. 

Only single-entry tourist visas can be issued online. For multiple entry visas, please apply at the Embassy.
 
This option is only applicable to tourist visas. Business visas are not applicable online. Please secure your business visa in person or by post at the Embassy.
 
e-Visas are administered by the Main Department of Immigration and Nationality Affairs in Ethiopia, not the Embassy. You may check e-Visa status online at www.evisa.gov.et. Once e-Visa is approved, an approval letter is sent directly to your email address.
