The new Ethiopian Ambassador meets representatives of the diaspora in Belgium

H.E Hirut Zemene, the new Ethiopian ambassador in the Kingdom of Belgium met with representatives of Luqman Ethiopia-Belgian Muslims Association (LEBMA VZW) on August 7, 2020 at the Embassy.

During the meeting, the representatives highlighted their association’s various activities done so far, and their future endeavours which could be implemented by their organization.

Following the discussion on various issues, Ambassador Hirut expressed gratitude for the works of the Diaspora associations and their frequent supports in the development of our country on all levels.

Newly appointed Ethiopian Ambassador confers with Ethiopian Airlines Area Manager

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the FDRE to Belgium, Luxembourg and E.U. institutions, Her Excellency Hirut Zemene conferred with Ethiopian Airlines Area Manager, Mr. Taye Kenenisa today, August 4, 2020 at the Embassy premises.

Discussions focused on issues about ways to further strengthen working relations between the Embassy and Ethiopian Airlines office in Belgium.

Commending the friendly relationship between the two institutions, H.E Ambassador Hirut thanked Ethiopian Airlines for transporting critical care equipments which will play a vital role in the efforts to fight against COVID19 in Ethiopia.

Both sides exchanged views on issues they can work collectively on the coming fiscal year, and the Ambassador assured the area manager that the Embassy is ready to work closely with Ethiopian Airlines office in Belgium.

Health Ministry To Conduct 17 Million COVID-19 Tests Via Month-Long Campaign

Ministry of Health stated that it will conduct close to 17 Million COVID 19 tests during the nationwide testing and prevention campaign kicked off recently.

In a press conference held to brief media on the nationwide COVID 19 testing and prevention campaign, Minister of Health, Dr. Lia Tadesse said the efforts being exerted by the government to curb the pandemic are nothing without the active participation of the general public.

The campaign will not be effective without the active participation of the general public, the Minister said calling all stakeholders to join hands against the pandemic which is rapidly spreading among the community.

She called for augmentation of isolation and treatment facilities in all Woredas of the country for the transmission of the virus is drastically rising in all parts of the nation.

Dr. Lia further requested artists and public figures to contribute their share for the success of the national testing and prevention campaign in creating awareness through artistic works on how to effectively prevent and control the spread of the virus.

The Minister urged the public to get tested and adhere to precautions by washing their hands, wearing masks, and keeping distances as per the precautions set by the government for the successfulness of the campaign in terms of curtailing the spread of coronavirus in the country.

Ethiopia Earns $66.4M From Electric Exports To Neighboring Countries

Ethiopia earned 66.4 Million US Dollars from electric energy exports to Sudan and Djibouti and during the already concluded Ethiopian Fiscal Year.

Ethiopian Electric Power has achieved 116 pct of its plan set to collect 57 Million US dollars revenue from exporting energy to the two East African Countries.

Out of the total revenue, 29.3 Million US Dollar has been gained through selling energy to Sudan while the remaining 37.1 Million is from Djibouti.

The revenue earned has surpassed the previous year’s achievements by 11.5 Million US Dollars.

The full capacity of reservoirs to contain enough amount of water due to adequate rainfall and the country’s ability to address power outage helped to effectively achieve the plan.

Ethiopia is working to create integration through electricity with additional African countries including Tanzania and South Sudan and Somaliland.

Ethiopian Electric Power also disclosed that the transmission line that links the nation’s power grid with Kenya is to be completed and go operational soon.

AU-Led Tripartite Negotiations On GERD Resume Today

The AU-led tripartite negotiations between Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) will resume this afternoon after they were suspended for two weeks.

The first round of talks was suspended on July 13, 2020, after 11 days of negotiations held virtually on the first stage-filling and operation of the dam.

According to a statement posted on the Ministry of Water, Irrigation, and Energy (MoWIE) Facebook, this week’s negotiations will take place for the next week.

The negotiations will deliberate on the directions set by leaders of the three countries as per the document tabled for them following the first round of negotiation, it said.

According to the Ministry, the Ethiopian Government is committed to working towards the end of the negotiations in a mutually beneficial way for all parties.

Ethiopian completed the first stage of filling the dam late July.
