National Committee Receives Donations to fight COVID-19

H.E. Gedu Andargachew, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, received monetary and in-kind donations on behalf of the National Resource Mobilization Committee, from various organizations to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Accordingly, the minister received:

-USD $100,000 from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) staff members. According to Commander Abebe Muluneh, IGAD Security Sector Program Director, the donation is part of the IGAD Staff members’ initiative to contribute USD $100.000.00 to each member states to help them fight the COVID-19 scourge;

-USD $1m from Ethiopian Diaspora Trust Fund (EDTF) handed over by Mr. Eyesuswork Zafu, Chairman of EDTF Board of Directors,

-Estimated 4.5 m (in-kind donation) from HOPE Enterprises,

-2 m Ethiopian Birr from Organization for Rehabilitation and Development in Amhara (ORDA),

-1.2 m Ethiopian Birr from VSO in Ethiopia,

-541.808 Ethiopian Birr from Pathfinder International Ethiopia,

-400,000 Ethiopian Birr from “Ahun Fiker” Organization,

-300,000 Ethiopian Birr from ‘’Ras Agez’’ (Women self-help group in Ethiopia),

-100,000 Ethiopian Birr from Organization for Welfare and Development,

On the occasion, Mr. Gedu appreciated the initiative taken by all of the organizations to be part of the joint approach of fighting the pandemic.

He also underscored that such donations would add muscles to the Government and people of Ethiopia in their fight to limit the spread of the virus and minimize its effects.

H.E. Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, a State Minister of the Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia and H.E. Dr. Eyob Tekalgn Tolina, a State Minister of Ethiopia’s Ministry of Finance attended the occasion representing the Resource Mobilization Committee that was set up to fight COVID-19.
