A delegation, from the Embassy of Ethiopia in Brussels, led by Her Excellency Ambassdor Hirut Zemene visits the headquarters of The Schippers Group located in the town of Hapert in The Netherlands on 23 May 2022. The Schippers Group is a family-owned Dutch company founded by Schippers family in 1966. As one of the largest suppliers for intensive livestock farming globally, the company develops knowledge, services, and products to improve hygiene in livestock farms around the world. Is has production facilities in different continents.
During the visit to the headquarters, Ambassador Hirut Zemene held a discussion with Mr. Mark Schippers – Owner and CEO of The Schippers Group. The CEO briefed the Ambassador and her delegation about the company and its planned investment in Ethiopia. The Ambassador, on the other hand, explained about opportunities for investment in the livestock sector in Ethiopia highlighting the largest livestock population the country posses in Africa i.e. more than 160 million, and the huge market size.
With an interest to investing in Ethiopia, The Schippers Group had signed MoU in December 2021 with the Ministry of Agriculture to carry out the “Livestock Power Ethiopia Project”. This project is expected to empower livestock farmers in optimizing farm hygiene, create more efficient management of livestock and improve financial inclusion of small-scale livestock owners through putting in place animal ID system.
As part of the visit the Ambassador also received samples of livestock ear tag applicators donated from the company to the Ministry of Agriculture of Ethiopia.
The company plans to establish a production facility in Ethiopia which will also serve as a hub for its Africa market.
