Ethiopia participated in a stakeholders’ dialogue on “Food and Agriculture on the Road to COP31 and COP32: From Antalya to Addis Ababa,” held in Brussels and organised by Clim-Eat, AgriCord and Trias on behalf of the High-Level Panel for a Just Rural Transition.
Mr. Semungus Habtegiyorgis, Deputy Head of Mission, delivered opening remarks, highlighting the importance of aligning climate action, agriculture and food systems to advance food security, climate resilience and sustainable development. He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to placing agriculture at the centre of its preparations for COP32, emphasising farmer-centred approaches, increased climate finance, gender-responsive policies and stronger international partnerships. He also stressed the importance of building on the outcomes of COP31 in Antalya and strengthening international cooperation to mobilise investment and scale up sustainable, climate-resilient agrifood systems ahead of COP32 in Addis Ababa.
The event also featured interactive panel discussions, bringing together representatives from public and private stakeholders to explore opportunities for strengthening the alignment between food and climate agendas, addressing existing gaps and identifying pathways for more integrated and sustainable food system

Bureau of the OACPS Committee of Ambassadors Holds Special Session on Preparations for the 122nd Council of Ministers
The Bureau of the Committee of Ambassadors of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) held a special session to discuss preparations for the 122nd Session of the OACPS Council of Ministers, to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Under the leadership of H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun, the Bureau held extensive discussions with Member States on the proposed dates, meeting format and agenda items for the forthcoming ministerial session.
Ethiopia is serving as Chair of the OACPS Council of Ministers from 1 August 2026 to 31 January 2027. At its 121st Session, the Council of Ministers endorsed the convening of the 122nd Session in Addis Ababa.

Ambassador Eshete held a productive meeting with H.E. Ambassador Mathilde Félix-Paganon, Permanent Representative of France to the Political and Security Committee (PSC) of the European Union, ahead of the upcoming working visit of the EU-PSC Ambassadors to Ethiopia.
Ambassador Eshete briefed Her Excellency on the current situation in northern Ethiopia and developments in the Horn of Africa. He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to the peaceful resolution of conflicts and the promotion of regional peace and security. He also underscored the important role of France and the European Union in supporting peace efforts in the Horn of Africa and Red sea region.
For her part, Ambassador Mathilde expressed appreciation for the Ethiopian Government’s approach to addressing the current situation and emphasized the importance of sustaining efforts towards peace and development. She also highlighted the strong bilateral relationship between Ethiopia and France and their cooperation across a range of sectors.
Both Ambassadors stressed the importance of maintaining regular dialogue and further strengthening coordination on issues of mutual interests at diplomatic missions level.

Ambassador Eshete held a productive discussion with H.E. Ms. Julika Luts, Ambassador of Estonia to the Political and Security Committee (PSC) of the European Union, ahead of the upcoming working visit of EU-PSC Ambassadors to Ethiopia.
He briefed Ambassador Luts on the current situation in northern Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa. He highlighted Ethiopia’s commitment and ongoing efforts to promote peace, security, and stability in the region. He also underscored the vital role of the European Union in supporting regional development and stability.
Ambassador Luts emphasized the importance of strengthening Ethiopia–Estonia relations within the framework of the EU–Ethiopia partnership. She also highlighted digitalization, IT, and technology as key areas for future cooperation.
Both Ambassadors stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral relations between Ethiopia and Estonia, as well as within the broader EU–Ethiopia partnership. They also agreed to maintain regular consultations between their respective on the Horn of Africa issues.

Ambassador Eshete met with H.E. Mr. Gillon, Ambassador of Belgium to the Political and Security Committee (PSC) of the European Union ahead of the EU-PSC Ambassadors upcoming working visit to Ethiopia.

He briefed Ambassador Gillon on current situation in the northern Ethiopia and efforts of the Federal Government in stabilizing Tigray Region. The Ambassadors then exchanged views on developments in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa. The need to strengthening EU – AU partnerships on all rounded cooperation was underscored during the discussion.

Ambassador Eshete Tilahun and his team received Mr. Francesco Di Lillo of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints together with accompanying representatives at the Embassy to discuss humanitarian and development activities in Ethiopia.
The Church representatives briefed the Ambassador on their ongoing projects, as partner organization involved in irrigation, maternal and newborn health care, vaccination, food security and emergency relief. Ambassador Eshete commended the Church’s contribution to community level development works focusing on the most vulnerable.
Looking ahead, the two sides exchanged views on future priorities in the areas of humanitarian assistances, afforestation, irrigation and agriculture. The meeting closed with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation and regular exchanges.

Seminar on Ethiopia-Belgium Academic Cooperation Commences in Brussels
Today, 22 October 2026, the Embassy of Ethiopia in Brussels, in collaboration with VLIRUOS, commenced a seminar on Ethiopia–Belgium Academic Cooperation, bringing together academics, policymakers, and development partners. The Seminar highlight achievements, share experiences, and explore opportunities for future collaboration in higher education, research, and institutional development.
The Seminar featured Welcoming and opening remarks by H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun, H.E. Ambassador Peter Maddens, Director for Sub-Saharan Africa at Belgium’s Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation; H.E. Ambassador Mulie Tarekegn, Deputy Director-General of European and American Affairs at Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia and Prof. Mieke Van Herreweghe, Chairperson of VLIRUOS and UGent.
Held as part of the celebration of 120 years of diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Belgium, the seminar underscores the vital role of academic partnerships in deepening bilateral relations, strengthening institutional ties, and advancing sustainable development through knowledge exchange and research cooperation.

H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun Meets with Mr. Stefano Signore
Today, 20 October 2026, H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun held a cordial discussion with Mr. Stefano Signore, Director for Africa at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships (INTPA), and his team.
During the meeting, Ambassador Eshete briefed Mr. Signore on the current situation in northern Ethiopia and outlined the government’s ongoing efforts to secure lasting peace, stability and security in the region. He underscored the vital role of the European Union in supporting infrastructure development and reconstruction, as well as addressing humanitarian needs. He also highlighted EU’s place in terms of investing in key sectors of Ethiopian economy.
Mr. Signore commended Ethiopia’s resilience and efforts in de-escalating the situation in northern part of the country and reaffirmed EU core principles of respecting, sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also emphasized that beyond immediate recovery, it is crucial to focus on national development agendas in partnership with the EU to create a broader impact for the people of Ethiopia.
The two sides agreed on the importance of actively engaging European private investors to unlock new opportunities in Ethiopia and build firmly on shared mutual interests.

Ambassador Eshete held productive discussion with Ambassador Vensild, Chair of the Political and Security Committee (PSC) of the European Union on 19 october 2026. During the meeting, Ambassador Eshete briefed Ambassador Vensild on current developments in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa.
He highlighted Ethiopia’s commitment and ongoing efforts to promote peace, security and stability in the region. He also underscored the important role of the European Union in supporting stability and development in the Horn of Africa region.
Ambassador Vensild reaffirmed European Union’s readiness to support the people and Ethiopian Government in their efforts to transform the country.
Both sides reiterated their shared desire to strengthening the EU–AU and EU-Ethiopia partnership through continuous dialogue and consultation.

Today 16 October 2026, H.E. Ambassador Eshete had productive discussion with Ambassador Brusbārdis, Representative of Latvia to the Political and Security Committee (PSC) of the European Union. The two exchanged views on the current situation in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa.
Ambassador Eshete briefed Ambassador Kristaps on the situation in northern Ethiopia and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to peaceful solution of conflicts, while safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and national interests.
For his part, Ambassador Kristaps highlighted the complex geopolitical dynamics in the Horn of Africa and underscored the importance of cooperation among the countries of the region in building good-neighbourly relations. He also stressed the need for the European Union to continue its regular engagement and partnership with Africa.
