At the tailored roundtable discussion with selected Dutch companies, Ambassador Eshete highlighted Ethiopia’s dynamic investment landscape and emphasized the country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral economic ties with the Netherlands. He outlined priority sectors for Dutch Companies including particularly in their absolute competitive advantage in the Agricultural Productivity. He noted agro-processing, renewable energy, logistics, and large scale manufacturing are lucrative business choices.
Business representatives requested how the recent policy reforms positioned the process of enhancing ease in doing business better in Ethiopia.
Ambassador Eshete and his colleague explained the transforming business environment and underscored the need to awake from risk averse sendrom by utilizing the EU Global Gateway facilities.
Participating companies expressed their keen interest in expanding business-to-business (B2B) cooperation and exploring concrete trade and investment opportunities with their Ethiopian counterparts.
Ambassador Eshete reaffirmed the Embassy’s readiness to support Dutch investors through targeted matchmaking, institutional facilitation, and follow-up engagement. All the interested companies were invited to participate in the upcoming EU-Ethiopia Business and Investment Forum in April 2026 scheduled to take place in Addis Ababa.At the event the European Union Global Gateway initiative practical future was presented.

The European External Actions Service (EEAS) organized a roundtable meeting to discuss Maritime Security in the Western India Ocean on 28 November 2028.
Ambassadors and Senior Embassy Representatives of the Djibouti Code of Conduct (DCoC) and the Jeddah Amendment (JM) Member States in Brussels participated in this roundtable discussion on how to improve information sharing and enhancing cooperation to address threats to maritime security. Reinforcements of the community interests in the Western India Ocean in particularly those covered by the Djibouti Code of Conduct were highlighted.
During the discussion Ambassador Eshete reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to ensure the objectives of the Djibouti Code of Conduct framework and underscored the importance of interlinkage between inland and maritime security threats.
In the discussion several priorities were identified, including to improve coordination, cooperation and collaboration to reinforce maritime security by streamlining information sharing, both inside the Djibouti Code of Conduct framework member states and from external partners to the region.
The Djibouti Code of Conduct (DCoC) is a regional framework for maritime cooperation, initially adopted in 2009 to combat piracy and armed robbery in the Gulf of Aden and the western Indian Ocean. An extension, the Jeddah Amendment, was adopted in 2017 to broaden its scope to include other illicit activities like human trafficking, illegal fishing, and maritime terrorism. The code is based on four pillars: capacity building, regional training, national legislation, and information sharing.
Ethiopia is a signatory to the Djibouti Code of Conduct (DCoC) in 2009 and Jeddah Amendment (JA) in 2017.

On the Second day of the Session of the 30th Conference of State Parties to the Organization for Prohibifion of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) during the course of the General Debate session of the conference, Ambassador Eshete delivered our statement highlighting among other elements, National implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention within the context of the country framework, and expresed strong commitment to supporting the work of the organization.

The Ambassador also underscored the importance of cooperation through capacity building with a special focus on the Africa programmes.

The Thirtieth Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Convention of Chemical Weapons opened on the 24th of November 2025 in The Hague, the Netherlands and will continue till 28 November 2025.

H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun held comprehensive discussion with Mrs. Martine van Hoovstraten, Acting Director for Africa Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on 24 November 2025.
In the discussion bilateral, regional and global political, security and humanitarian issues were highlighted.
Ambassador Eshete provided briefing on the current peace and security situation in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa Region. He emphasized that the government of Ethiopia is committed to a peaceful resolution of conflicts and encourages multiparty political system.
Ambassador Eshete also noted meeting of Prime Ministers of the two countries at the sidelines of the G20 Summit Johannesburg. He expressed appreciation to the Netherlands’ Government for identifying the Horn of Africa as a focal region in Africa, with Ethiopia as core partner of development cooperation.
Mrs. Martine van Hoogstraten on her part acknowledged the role The two sides have agreed to strengthen the interaction and reaffirmed their commitment to cooperate on bilateral and regional issues of common concern

A delegation led by H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun, Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the Organisation of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is taking part on the 30th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convetion (CWC) in the Hague, the Netherlands.

During its first day psession the Conference has elected H.E. Ambassador Agustín Vásquez Gómez, Permanent Representative of El Salvador to the OPCW, as the Chairperson of the 30th Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention.

The session also adopted agenda that bring together the 193 member states’ intetests and concerns particularly implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention. The Organization has a mandate inspecting and verifying non peaceful use of chemical weapons and the distraction of stockpiles of chemical weapons.

The OPCW was established in 1997 and Ethiopia as victim of chemical weapons attack is a founding member

ውይይቱ በኢትዮጵያ የባህር በር ጥያቄ፣ ታሪካዊ ዳራ እና በዳያስፖራው ሚና ላይ ያተኮረ ነበር። ተሳታፊዎች የኢትዮጵያ የባህር በር ጥያቄ፣ በታሪክ አጋጣሚ የተፈጠረውን ግዙፍ ጥፋት እና ስትራቴጂክ ስህተት ለማረም እና የሀገርን ዘላቂ ብሔራዊ ጥቅም ለማስጠበቅ የሚደረግ ፍትሃዊ ትግል እንደሆነ ተሰምሮበታል። በዚሁ ሃሳብ በመስማማት አጀንዳውን በምልአት ለማራመድ መግባባት ላይ ተደርሷል። ዳያስፖራው ኢትዮጵያ በሰላማዊ መንገድ የባህር በር ማግኘት እንድትችል በትጋትና በጋራ በመስራት በኩል ያለው ሚና የላቀ እንደሆነም የጋራ መግባባት ተደርሷል። በተጨማሪም በኢትዮጵያ ንግድ ባንክ የዳያስፖራ አካውንት ለመክፈት የተደረጉ አዳዲስ ማሻሻዮችን ላይ ገለፃ ተሰጥቷል። ውይይቱ ዳያስፖራው በብሔራዊ አጀንዳዎች ላይ ያለውን ግንዛቤ እና ተሳትፎ የሚያሳድግ እንደሆነና በተከታታይ እንደሚካሄድ አምባሳደር እሸቴ ጥላሁን አሳውቀዋል።

Ambassador Eshete and his team confered with the Director of Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture for Belgium, Luxembourg, Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific (CBL-ACP) and the Deputy Head of the Netherlands-African Business Council (NABC) on deepening trade and investment ties between the BENELUX countries and Ethiopia.
Their discussion focused on planning business promotion programmes. They also explored opportunities to enhance flow of trade and investment, leveraging Ethiopia’s growing economy and investment-friendly reforms.
The Representatives emphasized the importance of increasing B2B contacts and coordination for sustainable investment in Ethiopia. The discussion concluded agreeing on the timeline of launching Joint Investment and Trade Forums in the BENELUX countries in the second quarter of 2026.

H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun received H.E. Mrs. Jeanne Crauser Ambassador of Luxembourg to Ethiopia, at the Chancey of the Embassy of Ethiopia for a bilateral meeting. The Ambassadors engaged in an in-depth exchange of views on issues of common interest. Particular attention was accorded to advancing the capacity building collaboration in the financial sector and supporting each other in the EU and other multilateral platforms.
The discussion also encompassed a broader review of areas for cooperation aimed at deepening the bilateral partnership. Furthermore, the Ambassadors exchanged ideas on local, regional and international developments.

The Ambassador received briefings and then discussed on ways of co-organizing exhibition and public events related to the commemoration of the 120th Anniversary of Ethiopia–Belgium diplomatic relations.
Following the meeting, the Embassy Team toured the Museum’s Ethiopian collections, where Mr. Joy Voncken, Collection Manager, and Ms. Virginie Grignet, Art Conservator, provided comprehensive overview of the natural and cultural heritage items.
