A webinar titled “GERD as a means of Regional Cooperation” was held on November 29, 2022.
During the Webinar, members of the Ethiopian negotiation team on the GERD, Eng. Gedion Assefaw and Ambassador Ibrahim Idris gave an extensive presentation on the importance of the GERD as a symbol of regional cooperation.
In this regard, the panelists made detailed presentations focused on the general overview and technical aspects of construction of the dam, legal aspects of the negotiation process as well as the advantages that the GERD offers to Ethiopia’s energy coverage and economy, regional integration as well as climate mitigation. Ambassador Hirut Zemene has moderated the session.
During the Q&A session, various questions and comments were raised from the participants that enriched the discussion. Particular emphasis was given to increasing similar awareness creation platforms on the advantages of the GERD to Ethiopia and its sub-region.
Representatives from Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Benelux Countries, the European Parliament, universities, media and think-tanks as well as members of the Belgian Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Support Group and representatives of the Ethiopian diaspora community in Belgium were present.
