Ambassador Hirut Zemene confers with the Rector of Ghent University and professors from the university

H.E Ambassador Hirut Zemene conferred with Professor Rik Van de Walle, rector of Ghent University and distinguished professors who have been engaged in academic cooperation with Ethiopian higher educational institutes.

Both parties overviewed their cooperation spanning close to a couple decades programs, including Network for Advancement of Sustainable Capacity in Education and Research in Ethiopia (#NASCERE), Inter-University Cooperation (#IUC), and Strategic Institutional Partnership (#SIP). Ghent University has a strong cooperation link with many first-generation universities in Ethiopia in Masters and Ph.D. programs. Water, health, biodiversity, ICT, and agriculture are some of the areas covered both through the scholarship and inter-University Cooperation.

The discussion was quite fruitful in exchanging views on opportunities and challenges in order to further strengthen the higher education cooperation programs between the two Countries.

Ghent University, one of the top universities founded in 1817, offers more than 200 programs (including 73 English-taught master’s programs) and conducts in-depth research within a wide range of scientific domains. As one of the major universities in Belgium and universally, its 11 faculties offer a wide range of courses.
