A delegation led by H.E. Hasan Muhumed Moalin is taking part on the 28th Session of the Organisation of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in the Hague, the Netherlands.
The session is deliberating on various agendas that bring together the 193 member countries on the implementation of the Chemical Weapon Convention that guides the work of the organisation, among others, on international exchanges of scientific and technical information, chemicals, and equipment for the manufacturing, processing, or use of chemicals for peaceful use. It has also a mandate to inspect non peaceful use of chemical weapons and the reduction of stockpiles of chemical weapons.
H.E. Hasan has delivered Ethiopia’s position on the need to strengthen the Africa Program for technology transfer and capacity building on chemical related technologies and preventive aspects on damages where necessary for both the continent and that of Ethiopia . He also highlighted how Ethiopia had already adopted comprehensive national implementation legislation and designated a National Authority for the Convention as a national focal point to follow up the full implementations of the Convention.
The OPCW was established in 1997 of which Ethiopia is a founding member. The organisation has recently launched a state of the arts Chemical Laboratory that will be available for member countries demand for chemical laboratories, training and capacity building in the area.
