During our interview with Mr. Stijn Swinkels on the 8th of June 2017, we touched on several topics including the history of Habesha Beer, market opportunities in Ethiopia in the food an drinks industry, government incentives and the development of the economy. Mr. Stijn Swinkels also shared his thoughts on the positive experiences, successes and challenges he encountered while investing in Ethiopia.
Bavaria is one of the world leading brewery. It was founded in the 17th century in Lieshout, The Netherlands, and has been owned and operated by the Swinkels family since 1773. In 2012, the Dutch brewer Bavaria joined Habesha Breweries, one of Ethiopia’s first shareholder companies. The production of Habesha Breweries is growing fast in a context of high consumer demand. It increased its production from 300,000 hectoliters in 2015 to 600,000 hectoliters in 2016.
