H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun held discussion with H.E. Dr Annette Weber

Ambassador Eshete Tilahun held meeting with the European Union’s Horn African Special representative Dr. Weber and discussed a range of bilateral, regional, and global issues at Ethiopian Embassy Brussels 4 February 2025. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Ethiopia and the European Union, particularly in areas of mutual interest such as security, and regional integration. Both officials emphasized the importance of maintaining open channels of communication to address issues of common concern and explore opportunities for collaboration. The meeting also touched upon regional stability, with a shared commitment to supporting peacebuilding efforts in East Africa, including conflict resolution and humanitarian assistance

Ambassador Eshete highlighted Ethiopia’s proactive role in regional integration through platforms like the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). The EU envoy commended Ethiopia’s efforts and reiterated the EU’s support for initiatives aimed at promoting stability and development in the region. Both have agreed to regularly consult to ensure cooperation and alignment on key priorities.

At the annual Diplomatic Dinner hosted on 4 February 2025 by the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture for Belgium, Luxembourg, Africa the Caribbean and the Pacific (CBL-ACP), H. E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun and the Belgian Head of Mission to Ethiopia H.E. Ambassador Annelies Verstichel conferred with business leaders, which are eyeing opportunities in Ethiopia. The Chamber is currently working to organize business delegation from different companies to visit Ethiopia in Spring 2025. The two Ambassadors committed to work together for the success of the mission.

Speaking in an interview with the Prosperity Party Communication Office, Ambassador Birtukan highlighted Ethiopia’s notable diplomatic successes, attributing them to national reforms. She emphasized that the country has reinforced its diplomatic efforts by adhering to the principle of “African solutions to African problems” and prioritizing regional cooperation.
Under Ethiopia’s priority policy direction for neighbouring countries, significant efforts have been made to strengthen development ties and maintain regional peace. These initiatives have been conducted on a large scale, focusing on mutual benefit and reciprocal cooperation.
The State Minister emphasizes Ethiopia’s leading role in fostering mutual cooperations in trade, economic linkages, electricity, road infrastructure, and water resource management. She also stated that discussions surrounding Ethiopia’s quest to access the sea are being approached with principles of shared growth and mutual benefit.
Furthermore, Ambassador Birtukan noted that Ethiopia’s accession to BRICS represents a major diplomatic achievement. She attributed this success to the country’s strategic diplomatic engagements and foreign policy adjustments.
Additionally, the State Minister highlighted the government’s citizen-oriented diplomacy approach, which has facilitated the safe return of many Ethiopians who faced challenges abroad.

Ambassador Eshete Tilahun Presents Credentials to King Philippe of Belgium

On 7 November 2024, H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun formally presented his Letter of Credentials to His Majesty King Philippe of Belgium. During the audience, King Philippe expressed his warm welcome to the Ambassador and conveyed his good wish to H.E. President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. His Majesty reiterated Belgium’s longstanding ties and his acquaintance with Ethiopia. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun met with H.E. Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, Secretary-General of the African, Caribbean, and Pacific Group of States (OACPS) on October 01, 2024.
Ambassador Eshete thanked the Secretary-General for the warm reception and the coordination efforts of the OACPS Secretariat. He expressed Ethiopia’s commitment to work closely with the Secretariat and member states not only to meet the purpose for which the group is organized, but also to address common contemporary challenges.
