H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun held a courtesy meeting with H.E. Ambassador Pierre Cartuyvels, Head of Protocol of FPS Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of Belgium. The Ambassadors exchanged views on enhancing working relation that commensurate with the more than a century diplomatic relations. They also discussed on preparations for the upcoming 120th Anniversary of Diplomatic relations and ways of successful commemoration.
Ambassador Eshete had also, earlier today, a phone discussion with Ms. Stijn Janssen, Special Envoy of the Netherlands for the Horn of Africa and Head of Division for the Horn, East and Southern Africa. The two officials among others, highlighted the convening of political consultation, the 100th Anniversary of Diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and the Netherlands. At both interactions, the inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and other issues were raised

The Ethiopian Embassy in Brussels celebrated the inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), the PGUMEN 2- day of Unity and Diversity (የህብር ቀን) and the eve of Ethiopian New Year 2018 with members of the diaspora as well as friends of Ethiopia from the Benelux countries.
At the occasion religious leaders from Orthodox and Protestant Christian communities as well as Leader of the Muslim Faithful served prayers at the start of the program. H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun delivered opening remarks. He highlighted the significance of GERD for prosperity of Ethiopia and region at large. He also commended the Ethiopian diaspora for their contributions to the project.
The event served both as a joyous cultural occasion and as a moment of national pride, focusing on Ethiopian historic achievements in realizing the GERD. Which is a symbol of unity and resilience the people of Ethiopia.
The program featured a panel discussion that brought diaspora community to reflect on the significance of GERD for the sustainable development of Ethiopia, regional cooperation and energy security. Participants exchanged perspectives on the contribution of the dam to socio-economic transformation of Ethiopia.
In recognition of the commitment and participation of the diaspora, the Embassy organized a ceremony of honoring individuals and community leaders. Their outstanding contributions to GERD through financial support, advocacy and community mobilization were praised.
The celebration concluded with cultural performances, traditional New Year greetings and reaffirmation of the shared determination to continue working together for Ethiopia’s prosperity and development.

የታላቁ የኢትዮጵያ ህዳሴ ግድብ ምርቃት እና የ2018 ዓ.ም. የአገራችን የዘመን መለወጫ በዓልን ምክንያት በማድረግ ዛሬ ጳጉሜን 2 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም. (የኅብር ቀን) ጥልቅ የደስታ ስሜት የተንጸባረቀበት በዓል ተከብሯል። በበዓሉ ላይ በቤልጅዬም፣ በኔዘርላንደስ እና በሉግዘምበርግ የሚኖሩ ከሁለት መቶ ሃምሳ በላይ ኢትዮጵያውያን፣ ትውልደ ኢትዮጵያውያን እና የኢትዮጵያ ወዳጆች ታድመዋል። በዓሉን የኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ቤተክርስቲያ አባቶች፣ የፕሮቴስታንት ቤተክርስቲያን መሪዎች እና በብራሰልስ የኢትዮጵያ ሙስሊም ኮሙዩኒቲ የሃይማኖት አባት በጸሎት አስጀምረዋል።
ለግድቡ ግንባታ በሙያቸውና በአስተባባሪነት ያገለገሉ ግለሰቦች እውቅና ተሰጥቷቸዋል። በቦንድ ሽያጭና በስጦታ ገቢ ተሰባስቧል። ለግድቡ እና ለሀገር ጥብቅና በመቆም ለጋራ የድል ቀን የታገሉ ምስጋና ቀርቦላቸዋል። የህዳሴ ግድብና የአገራችንን ወቅታዊ ሁኔታ በሚመለከት መግለጫ ከኤምባሲው ቀርቦ ውይይት ተካሂዷል። የግድቡን መጠናቀቅ የሚዘክር ግጥም እንዲሁም ከብራሰልስ የአፋር ኮሙዩኒቲ በእጅጉ የተደነቀ ባህላዊ ጨዋታ ቀርቧል።
ክቡር አምባሳደር እሸቴ ጥላሁን 2018 ዓ.ም. የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ ጉስቁልና ማብቂያና የብልጽግና ጉዞ መሰረቱ የሚፀናበት ዓመት መጀመሪያ እንደሚሆን ገልጸዋል። ኢትዮጵያ በብዙ ቋንቋ፣ ባህል፣ እሴት እና ሃይማኖት ያሸበረቀች አገር ናትም ብለዋል። ብዝሃነታችን እና የአባቶቻችን የድል ገድሎች ፈጣሪ ካደለን ውብ አገራዊ የተፈጥሮ ገፀ-በረከቶች ጋር ተዳምረው የድንቅና ጥልቅ ታሪክ አገር ባለቤቶች እንድንሆን አድርጎናል ሲሉም በአንክሮ ገልጸዋል። አንድነታችን በጋራ መስዋዕትነት የተገኘ ስለሆነ ያኮራናል በማለትም ድል ያለ ዋጋ እንደማይገኝ አስገንዝበዋል። ብዝኃነታችን ውበታችን እና ታሪካችን የተገመደበት ሰበዝ በመሆኑ፣ ይህንን ሃብት የምናደምቀው “ብዝኃነት የኢትዮጵያ ጌጥ” ነው በሚለው መርህ ነው ሲሉም አስምረዋል።
የህዳሴ ግድብ ግንባታ በመዘግየትና ተስፋ በሚያስቆረጥ ደረጃ ላይ ደርሶ በነበረበት፣ ዘርፈ ብዙ ችግሮች ተጋርጠውበት ለውድቀት ከተቃረበበት ሁኔታ በማውጣት በተለየ ቁርጠኝነትና ክትትል ለውጤት በመብቃቱ ለክቡር ዶ/ር ዐብይ አህመድና አብረዋቸው ለሰሩ ዜጎች አምባሳደር አሸቴ ምስጋና አቅርበዋል። ከለውጡ በኋላ ዶ/ር ዐብይ የሰጡት የህይወት ዋጋዎችን የጠየቀ ቆራጥ አመራር በትውልዶች የጀግንነት ታሪክ ሲወሳ ይኖራልም ብለዋል። መሪአችን የህዳሴ ግድብ በፍጥነትና በከፍተኛ ጥራት እንዲጠናቀቅ በተጫወቱት ቁልፍ ሚና እና መላው ኢትዮጵያዊ በአንድነት ተሰልፎ ባደረገው ርብብር የአሁኑ ደማቅ ታሪክ ተፅፏል ካሉ በኋላ፣ ግድቡ የእያንዳንዱ ኢትዮጵያዊ አሻራ ያረፈበት የዚህ ትውልድ ዳግማዊ አድዋ ሆኖ ይዘከራል ብለዋል። በቀጣይ ለምንሰራቸው ታላላቅ ፕሮጀክቶች የፅናት እና የስራ ጥራት ምሳሌ ሆኖ ያገለግለናል፣ ለዚህ ድል አምላካችንን እንደገና እናመስግነው በማለት መልዕክታቸውን አስተላልፈዋል።

Ambassador Eshete Tilahun welcomed at his office and held a courtesy discussion with Ambassador  G. Baris Tantekin, Head of Mission of the Republic of Türkiye to the Kingdom of Belgium on 29 August, 2025.

Ambassador Eshete highlighted the close relationship between Ethiopia and Türkiye in economic development and geostrategic issues. The two Ambassadors expressed their commitment to strengthening relations in bilateral, regional and global affairs in the activities of their respective diplomatic mission.

The Ambassadors  also discussed on the need to collaborate within different platforms on regional and global issues and maintaining regular communications.

Ambassador Eshete Tilahun held fruitful discussion with Ms. Holy Ranaivozanany, Deputy Executive Director of the Africa-Europe Foundation at his office on 26 August 2025. The discussion focused on how fostering mutually beneficial Africa-Europe partnership. AU-EU partnership focuses on clean energy, digital transformation, youth leadership, infrastructure, and the transition minerals sector.
The Deputy Executive Director briefed the role, activities and working process of the Foundation. It works to facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogue, catalyse partnerships between the two continents by building a true partnership and a vision for a shared future. Ms. Ranaivozanany expressed the Foundation’s interest to work in collaboration with the Ethiopian Government in the upcoming Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2) and the seventh AU-EU Summit.
Ambassador Eshete on his part acknowledged the contribution of the Africa-Europe Foundation on facilitating cross continental cooperation between Africa and Europe. He appreciated the commitments of the Foundation to work with African Institutions including Embassies.
The two sides have agreed on the importance of continuing to exchange views and reaffirmed their commitment to cooperate on areas of common interests.

አምባሳደር እሸቴ በመጪው አመት በሚከበረው የኢትዮጵያና ቤልጅየም የዲፕሎማሲ ግንኙነት 120ኛ ዓመት ክብረ- በዓል የትምህርት ዘርፍ ትብብርን መዘከር እንደሚገባና ክብረ-በዓሉ ትብብሩን በሚያሳይ መልኩ መከበር እንዳለበት አንስተዋል። ከትብብሩ የተገኘውን ልምድ ወደሁሉም ዩኒቨርሲቲዎቻችን ማስፋት ጠቃሚ መሆኑን የሁለቱ ወገን የፕሮግራም አስተባባሪዎች ገልፀዋል።
Professors from seven Ethiopian Universities who took part in the Flemish–Ethiopian Postgraduate (PhD) Experience sharing Workshop, held from August 18 to 22, 2025, visited the Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Brussels. The Professors and engaged in discussions with H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun to reflect impression of their mission.
Ambassador Eshete emphasized the importance of further strengthening the cooperation in the higher education and of showcasing such collaboration as part of the upcoming celebration of the 120th Anniversary of Ethiopia–Belgium diplomatic relations. Coordinators of the programmers for both sides emphasized the importance of scaling up the Doctoral Degree Programs.
