Ambassador Eshete Tilahun held discussion with Mr. Marchel Gerrmann, Director for the Sustainable Economic Development and Private Sector Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands on 19 February 2025.
During the meeting the two officials exchanged views onthe wider investment opportunities in Ethiopia.Ambassador Eshete explained elements of the ongoing Home Grown Economic Reform and underlined the need to encourage Dutch Investors to take advantage of the recent macro-economic reforms and various opportunities to do business in the country.
Further more the Ambassador reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to create strong partnership with the Kingdom of Netherlands in development cooperation, climate change, economic development, peace and security endeavors.
Ambassador Eshete expressed his gratitude to the Government of the Netherlands for the longstanding development finance support and cooperation. Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation and discussed on identified areas for collaboration to promote business, including emerging private sector led partnership in the context of the European Union Global Gateway.

On Wednesday 19 February 2025, the Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Ambassador Eshete Tilahun presented his Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Willem Alexander, King of the Netherlands in an elegant Royal ceremony.
The official ceremony took place at the Nordeinde Palace in The Hague and was followed by a private conversation with His Majesty, during which bilateral, regional and multilateral matters of common concern and interests were discussed.
The Ambassador presented to His Majesty the King priorities of his mandate and commitment to continue deepening the links that have huge potential for the two countries. On the highlight of His priorities of his tenure the Ambassador stated the need to expand business ties and saught the support of the Royal Family to encourage Investment, Trade and people to people relationship that is tourism, including Economic Mission and visit to Ethiopia.
His Majesty welcomed the Ambassador and expressed the support of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for success of his works and to strengthen the friendly relationships of the two countries.
Ethiopia and the Netherlands have maintained a history of longstanding relations of friendship and cooperation through the several bilateral and multilateral agendas. Highlights on the celebration of centenary of the bilateral trade agreement in 2026 as opportunity to expand cooperation was also presented

H. E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun held discussion with H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Belal, Managing Director of Common Fund for Commodities ( CFC) in Amsterdam 18 February 2025.
The two officials held the discussion at the Head Quarters of CFC, where teams from both sides were in attendance. The Managing Director underscored the need for standing together and advocating to secure fair trade in the global commodities market down the long journey. Detailed presentation on how the CFC works to help farmers which are producing export commodities attracted attentions.
Ambassador Eshete expressed appreciation for the advocacy and small scale producers investment financing works and reassured the Managing Director to work together and coordinate efforts for this just cause.

H.E. Ambassador Eshete held a meeting with H.E. Mrs. Judith Arends, Managing Director of Center for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI) and Acting Managing Director for International Development in the Netherlands Enterprise Agency ( RVO), 17 February 2025.
The discussions were held in the presence of pertinent Experts on Ethiopia. Both officials highlighted that the opportunities for doing business in Ethiopia far outweigh the challenges. Ambassador Eshete expressed gratitude to the people and Government of the Netherlands for their trust in short-term business engagements and their commitment to sustainable cooperation between the two countries.
Knowledge based businesses promotion and long-term development cooperation requires capacity building for Enterprises and government institutions. Both sides agreed to frequently and closely consult to unlock challenges in the implementation process.

Ambassador Eshete Tilahun held discussion with the Netherlands’ African Business Council (NABC) Acting Managing Director Mrs Nuria Vlonk-Cunha Soares on 17 February 2025.
The meeting was held at the Head Quarters of NABC emphasizing the wide opportunities in doing business in Ethiopia and the Netherlands for Enterprises from both sides. Schemes to stimulate businesses and areas of focus within the Ethiopian priority sectors has been highlighted. The need, in this regard, to working closely including through co-organizing promotion events, exploring facilitation supports from the Netherlands and offers to host business in Ethiopia also discussed in detail. Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation on practical terms.

Ambassador Eshete has paid a curtsey to the Ambassador of Angola to Netherlands Her Excellency Maria Isabel Ecoge in her capacity as Dean of African Ambassadors Group. Her Excellency provided briefing on how the African Group jointly following issues of common concern within the International Organizations and bilateral agenda with the Kingdom of Netherlands. As a non resident Envoy, Ambassador Eshete informed the African Dean that she is representative for all who shuttle from Brussels. He stated, very much encouraged by the assurances of Ambassador Isabel and the the readiness to coordinate in the efforts to achieve common objectives.

We also congratulate Republic of Kenya and Republic of Madagascar for availing themselves for same responsibility. The run up to this day was not easy. Now is the time for unity, collaboration, and unwavering support for the new AUC Chairperson. May this new leadership bring progress, stability, and prosperity to our beloved continent.

Ambassador Eshete Tilahun held a business meeting on 13 February 2025with Mr. Bruno De Smet and his team to explore potential collaboration opportunities between Volver Consulting and the Embassy.
During the discussion, Mr. De Smet provided an overview of his company’s work and expressed a strong interest in partnering with the Embassy to work on business and investment opportunities in Ethiopia.
