H.E Ambassador Hirut Zemene holds talks with members of Ethiopian communities in Belgium and Luxemburg on the current situation in Ethiopia

H.E Ambassador Hirut Zemene held talks with leaders, representatives, and members of Ethiopian communities in Belgium and Luxembourg on the current situation in Tigray, Ethiopia today (November 14, 20202).
In questions and answer session led by Ambassador Hirut Zemen following her presentation on the current situation, majority of the diaspora communities supported the overall law enforcement efforts of the Federal Government of Ethiopia is taking targeting the group in the TPLF following the violent attack on the National Defense Force.
She noted that the operation is not a civil war or an armed conflict; instead, it is a move to maintain the rule of law and uphold the constitution in the country. She further highlighted that the operation would end as soon as the government’s specific objectives are achieved.
Ethiopians and foreign nationals of Ethiopian origin came out in numbers and expressed their resolve to support the Government in its mission to insure the observance of law and order in the country.

H.E Ambassador Hirut Zemene held talks with H.E Ambassador Mikael Lindivall, the permanent representative of Sweden to the EU Political and Security Committee about the current situation in Ethiopia.

During the meeting, Ambassador Hirut and Ambassador Lindivall exchanged views on the unfolding political developments in Ethiopia. Ambassador Hirut briefed the later on the action that is being taken by the GOE to ascertain law and order in the country and the broader reform underway in Ethiopia over the last two years.

The two sides agreed to keep exchanges about developments in Ethiopia.

NEBE Proposes Holding 6 General Elections In May Or June

The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has proposed holding the six general elections in late May or early June, 2021.

The board’s remarks came today during a consultative meeting organized for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and media to discuss precautionary measures against COVID-19 during voting.

On the occasion, the NEBE officials proposed conducting the elections in the last two weeks of May or the first two weeks of June 2021.

The board also asked for an additional 1.1 million birr for the precautionary measures and deployment of additional manpower at polling centers.

The board also proposed providing training for poll workers from mid-December to mid-January and conducting voters’ registration from mid-January to the 3rd week of February.

It also proposed holding registration of candidates beginning from early to mid-February and election campaign from mid-February till the last week of the election period.
