The Embassy of Ethiopia to the BENELUX took part on the discussion about the Netherlands Africa Strategy

H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun and the Embassy Desk Officer have participated in the meeting that deliberated on the Netherland Africa Strategy, which outlines a ten-year vision for the period of 2023-2032 to enhance mutual interests between African states, promoting trade and economic cooperation, with the Netherlands. The key priorities of the star are highlighted as trade and economic partnerships, ensuring stability and security, and addressing challeges related to irregular migration.
At the opening of the meeting H.E. Mrs. Reinette Klever, Minister of Foreign Trade and Development of the Netherlands expressed commitments of the Government of the Netherlands to strengthen its partnership with African states interms of working together for mutual benefits. Her Excellency underscored that the Strategy’s focus areas are food security, water management and health. The Minister further highlighted the implementation of the strategy emphasize an approach of that is transformational.
Ambassador Eshete stated the close cooperation between Ethiopia and the Netherlands, also indicating the importance of general objectives and the resources requirements during implementation phases of the strategy. He noted how the strategy would interface with the EU Global Getaway Initiatives, the unintended impacts of European Deforestation Free Regulation on Africa’s foreign trade. He also expressed disappointment and the negative impacts of the unreasonable visa restriction measures. The African Ambassadors accredited to the Netherlands have participated in the meeting and underlined their countries commitment for successful win-win cooperation. Representatives of the government of The Netherlands provided clarifications questions and comments raised by African Ambassadors.
The Embassy held talks with VANDEWIELE, Textile commodities and Machinery producing company Today, 02 May 2025, H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun and the business diplomacy team of the Embassy discussed with Mr. Bram Kerckhof, Area Sales Manager of VANDEWIELE.
Mr. Kerkhof presented Vandewiele’s interest to work and invest in Ethiopia. He expressed wishes to partner with local businesses from the textile sector. The focus area of their investment includes Carpets, Furnishings, Blankets and Towels production.Ambassador Eshete and the Business Diplomacy team of the Embassy briefed Mr. Kerckhof about the opportunities in the textile Sector of Ethiopia and encouraged him to deploy efforts for profitable investment.VANDEWIELE NV is one of the Companies confirmed to take part in the upcoming Economic Mission to Ethiopia organized by CBL-ACP and the Embassy of Ethiopia in Brussels, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in Addis Ababa, from 1-4 June 2025.
H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun has addressed the African, Caribbean and Pacific Working Party (ACP WP) as organized by the president of the Council of the European Union.
The Working Party examined the European Union support program designed to enhance resilience across Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific. During the event, the EU’s support through the Decentralized Disaster Risk Management (DDRM) program for Ethiopia was presented by the Representatives of the Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA).
Ambassador Eshete expressed gratitude to the EU for its partnership commitment in this program and others. He also presented details of the Ethiopian government’s efforts in Disaster Risk Management, Humanitarian Response Coordination, Conflict Mediation, and Peacebuilding initiatives.
He emphasized the need to strengthen the partnership between Ethiopia and the European Union, especially within the framework of the Global Gateway Initiative that allows mutual benefit and a tool to transit from aid to development and business.
Ambassador Eshete responded to various questions raised by the Representatives of EU Member States regarding the program and future cooperation’s. The context of implementation of the Samoa Agreement was underlined by Representatives of EU Member States.
