We express deep regrets about the latest resolution on Ethiopia adopted by the European Parliament today. The resolution has once again failed to recognise the misery of millions of people caused by the belligerence of the TPLF in Afar and Amhara, while only focusing on Tigray region. The resolution comes amidst the announcement by the Government of Ethiopia on its readiness to peacefully resolve the conflict.
It was also contrary to the constructive engagement that was building up with the recent working visit to Ethiopia that was conducted by the Foreign Affairs, Women Affairs and Development committee members of the European Parliament and with the strong understanding amongst many responsible parliamentarians on the complexity of the situation in Ethiopia. We urge the Parliament to study and revise this unfitting resolution that doesn’t match with the stature that it commands.
