Teshome Toga, Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Benelux and Baltic countries and the EU institutions presented his letter of credence to H.E. Mrs Dalia GRYBAUSKAITE, President of the Republic of Lithuania, On June 30, 2014. The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace in Vilnius, capital of the Republic of Lithuania.
Following the presentations of his credential Ambassador Teshome briefed the President on the fast and sustainable economic growth as well as the business opportunities in Ethiopia. He underlined the need to further strengthen the business to business as well as cultural and tourism ties between the two countries. He also indicated the need to focus in cooperation in Higher learning Institutions particularly in scholarship and student exchange programs, university to university partnerships, technology transfer as well as town to town twinning’s for the benefits of the two countries.
Ambassador Teshome Toga has updated the President on the current situations in the horn of Africa and the role Ethiopia is playing to maintained peace and stability in the region. He thanked the support Lithuania has extended to our country as a member of the EU. Ambassador Teshome also acknowledged Lithuania’s support as member of the UNSC to Ethiopia and urged to continue its principled approaches to many African cases.
The President of the republic of Lithuania, H.E. Ms Dalia GRYBAUSKAITE, on her part expressed her happiness at Ethiopia’s continued economic growth and appreciated the leading role Ethiopia is playing to bring peace and stability in South Sudan and in the region. The President expressed her wish to see strengthened bilateral relations between the two countries. She emphasised the importance of cooperation countries and emphasised the importance of cooperation in the areas Ambassador Teshome has mentioned to bring the two countries more closer to each other.
During his stay in Lithuania, Ambassador Teshome met and held discussions with Mr. Neris GERMANAS, Vice Foreign Minister of Lithuania and Ms. Ina MARCIULIONYTE, Director for Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Pacific Department at Ministry. In the discussion, the Lithuanian side mentioned about the invitation to H.E.Dr. Tedros Adhanom, to visit Lithuania to participate in the Baltic Sciences and Technology summit on Life Sciences in September 2014 to be held in Vilnius. The vice Minister indicated Lithuania will assign soon an accredited Ambassador to Ethiopia.
Ambassador Teshome Toga also met and presented the copy of the credential to Mrs. Rasa KAIRIENE Director of State and Diplomatic Protocol Department, MFA of Lithuanian.
