H.E. Eshete Tilahun presented his credentials to His Royal Highness Prince Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg at the Grand Ducal Court.

During the meeting, Ambassador Eshete expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and cooperation between Ethiopia and Luxembourg. He also highlighted the key priorities of his tenure which include further strengthening the capacity building cooperation in the financial sector, enhancing people-to-people ties and promoting trade, investment and tourism between the two countries.

His Royal Highness Prince Guillaume on his part assured Luxembourg’s commitment to further enhancing bilateral cooperation and assured the Ambassador of the Government of Luxembourg’s full support in advancing mutually beneficial collaboration.

ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር ዐቢይ አሕመድ ለትብብር እና የጋራ ጥቅም የቀጠናውን እምቅ አቅም አፅንዖት ሰጥተው እንደሚከተለው አንስተዋል።
“የአፍሪካ ቀንድ በሀብት የበለፀገ ነው። ለም ምድር፣ የተፈጥሮ ውሃ እና የሰው ኃይል ሀብቶች አሉት። ይሁንና ራሳችንን ለመመገብ ስንቸገር ይስተዋላል። ቀጠናዊ ትስስር የጋራ ህልማችንን እውን ለማድረግ እጅግ ጠቃሚ ነው።”
ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር ዐቢይ አሕመድ እና የልዑካን ቡድናቸውም ጉብኝቱን አጠናቀው ተመልስዋል።
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and his delegation held a visit to Mogadishu, Somalia, earlier today. The two leaders held extensive discussions, building on previous engagements to strengthen bilateral relations. Their talks focused on peace and security, the economy, diplomacy, and opportunities for joint infrastructure development.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed emphasized the region’s immense potential for cooperation and mutual benefit, stating:
“The Horn of Africa is rich in resources—fertile lands, fresh water, and human capital. Yet, as a region, we struggle to feed ourselves. This makes integration essential to achieving our shared aspirations.”
The Prime Minister and his delegation have concluded their visit and returned to Ethiopia.

H.E. Eshete Tilahun presented his copy of credentials accrediting him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, to H.E. Ambassador Oliver Baldauff, the Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
During the meeting, Ambassador Eshete expressed his readiness to work closely with the Ministry to further strengthen relations and existing cooperation between Ethiopia and Luxembourg. He also outlined the key priorities of his tenure.
Emphasizing the commitment to fostering strong and friendly ties between Ethiopia and Luxembourg, Ambassador Baldauff on his part, welcomed him and assured Him of the Ministry’s support for his success.

H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun, along with staff of the Embassy of Ethiopia in Brussels, visited the Africa Museum on 25 February 2025 as part of efforts to enhance cultural and scientific collaboration.

During the visit, the delegation engaged in discussions with Mr. Bart Ouvry, Managing Director of the Africa Museum Tervuren and his team. The Managing Director provided briefing on the Museum’s extensive work, including its exhibitions, historical research, and the work of its scientific research center. He also elaborated on potential areas of cooperation between the Museum and Ethiopian institutions.
Ambassador Eshete expressed gratitude for the invitation and warm hospitality extended to the Embassy staff. The Ambassador highlighted key areas where the Ethiopian Embassy and the Museum could collaborate in the future, emphasizing preservation efforts. He further expressed Embassy’s desire to establish research partnerships, knowledge sharing and exchanges including demonstration of cultural artifacts.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to fostering closer ties through joint initiatives that promote African heritage and scientific exploration. In that regard to hold technical consultation.

H.E. Ambassador Eshete held the courtesy visit and discussed with Honourable Professor Philippe Gautier, Registrar of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at latter’s office on 20 February 2025 .

During the meeting Ambassador Eshete explained Ethiopia’s role and commitment to multilateralism and noted the current challenges facing multilateral organizations. He also underlined the importance of improving national implementation capacity of Member States with regard to international covenants and resolutions.
In this connection Ambassador Eshete requested the Court to provide higher level capacity building for Ethiopian judges, lawyers, and the judicial system.
Professor Gautier on his part provided an overview of the work of the Court and stressed the crucial role of the States Parties in the functioning of the Court. He further explained about the ICJ Judicial Fellowship Programme, which enables young lawyers to gain professional experience by working for the International Court of Justice and forwarded a call for able Ethiopian young lawyers to apply for the Judicial Fellowship Programme.
It was underlined that closer cooperation and relation provides opportunities for further collaboration for the justice system standers setting. Participation in the upcoming annual briefing on the activities of the ICJ were also highlighted.

Ambassador Eshete Tilahun held substantive discussion in relation to the dynamics about migration and returnees with Mr. Peter Schuurman, Special Envoy for Migration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the accompanying team from both sides on 20 February 2025.
Their discussion was focusing on cooperation and efforts pertaining to repatriating undocumented Ethiopian citizens, the need for strengthening resettlement schemes and development cooperation for long-term partnership on migration.
During the meeting, Mr. Peter acknowledged the significant progress made in the safe and orderly repatriation process. He also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to ensure effective implantation of commitments including reintegration. He appreciated the discussion held with Migration and Citizenship Service Officials during his visit to Ethiopia two weeks ago and called for more similar interactions.
On his part, Ambassador Eshete expressed appreciation to the Special Envoy for the practical efforts to resolve the issue and recalled the importance of Ethiopia-Netherlands authorities’ coordination to facilitate that both sides deliver as agreed. He underscored that successful repatriation requires a multi-stakeholder approach and highlighted the need to recognizing the interdependence of efforts.

Ambassador Eshete Tilahun held candid and detailed discussion with Mr. Jelte van Wieren, Director Africa Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on 19 February 2025.
In the discussion bilateral, regional and global political, security and humanitarian issues were highlited.
Ambassador Eshete briefed Ethiopia’s Foreign policy priorities to neighbouring countries, the undergoing Home Grown Reform, the current peace and security situation in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa Region. He emphasized the government’s commitment for peaceful resolution of conflicts and the opening up of the political space in the country.
Ambassador Eshete expressed his appreciation to the Netherlands government for identifying the Horn of Africa as a focal region in Africa, with Ethiopia a core partner of development cooperation.
Mr. Jelte van Wieren on his part acknowledged the role of Ethiopia in ensuring peace and stability at regional level and appereciated the recently macro-economic reform.
The two sides have agreed to strengthen the historic relation that exists between the two countries and reaffirmed their commitment to cooperate on bilateral and regional issues of common common concern.

Ambassador Eshete Tilahun held discussion with Mr. Marchel Gerrmann, Director for the Sustainable Economic Development and Private Sector Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands on 19 February 2025.
During the meeting the two officials exchanged views onthe wider investment opportunities in Ethiopia.Ambassador Eshete explained elements of the ongoing Home Grown Economic Reform and underlined the need to encourage Dutch Investors to take advantage of the recent macro-economic reforms and various opportunities to do business in the country.
Further more the Ambassador reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to create strong partnership with the Kingdom of Netherlands in development cooperation, climate change, economic development, peace and security endeavors.
Ambassador Eshete expressed his gratitude to the Government of the Netherlands for the longstanding development finance support and cooperation. Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation and discussed on identified areas for collaboration to promote business, including emerging private sector led partnership in the context of the European Union Global Gateway.

On Wednesday 19 February 2025, the Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Ambassador Eshete Tilahun presented his Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Willem Alexander, King of the Netherlands in an elegant Royal ceremony.
The official ceremony took place at the Nordeinde Palace in The Hague and was followed by a private conversation with His Majesty, during which bilateral, regional and multilateral matters of common concern and interests were discussed.
The Ambassador presented to His Majesty the King priorities of his mandate and commitment to continue deepening the links that have huge potential for the two countries. On the highlight of His priorities of his tenure the Ambassador stated the need to expand business ties and saught the support of the Royal Family to encourage Investment, Trade and people to people relationship that is tourism, including Economic Mission and visit to Ethiopia.
His Majesty welcomed the Ambassador and expressed the support of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for success of his works and to strengthen the friendly relationships of the two countries.
Ethiopia and the Netherlands have maintained a history of longstanding relations of friendship and cooperation through the several bilateral and multilateral agendas. Highlights on the celebration of centenary of the bilateral trade agreement in 2026 as opportunity to expand cooperation was also presented
