H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun, had a constructive exchange of views with H.E Anna-Maria BOURA, Chief Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of the European Council on 17 July 2025.
Ambassador Eshete explained Ethiopia’s preparations on hosting the two High Level Summits; The 4th United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS+4) and the African Union Climate Summit 2, scheduled to be held in July and September 2025 respectively in Addis Ababa.
During the discussion, Ambassador Eshete addressed critical regional developments including the peace and security of the horn, reaffirming Ethiopia’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and economic integration in the sub-region. He highlighted the country’s proactive efforts towards interdependence and cooperation for mutual benefit. He also conveyed Ethiopia’s perspectives on policies that could impact mobility and collaboration with the European Union.
Chief Advisor BOURA underlined, Ethiopia’s role as an anchor state to bring peace and stability to the region, and also acknowledged the stance on peaceful co-existence. She reiterated the EU’s support for regional stability and development.

H.E. Mr. Eshete Tilahun, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the European Union and the BENELUX countries, held a productive discussion on July 10, 2025, with H.E. Ambassador Rita Laranjinha, Managing Director for Africa at the European External Action Service. The meeting focused on a wide range of bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest.
Ambassador Eshete briefed Ambassador Laranjinha on Ethiopia’s preparations to host the 4th United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS+4) and requested for response on the matter for high-level participation from European Union institutions. He also called for strong EU engagement in the upcoming African Union Climate Summit, to be held in September 2025 in Addis Ababa.
The two sides discussed pressing regional developments, including the crisis in the Sudan, the situation in Somalia, and broader issues related to migration and visa policies. Ambassador Eshete conveyed Ethiopia’s concerns over restrictive policies that could hinder movement and cooperation.
Ambassador Eshete also raised the impact of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) on Ethiopian agricultural exports, emphasizing the need for fair and development-sensitive implementation to protect smallholder farmers. Ambassador Laranjinha acknowledged these concerns and expressed the EU’s position to continued technical dialogue to ensure balanced and practical solutions.
On regional security, He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s firm commitment to peaceful coexistence, highlighting the government’s deliberate efforts to de-escalate any tensions. Ambassador Laranjinha commended Ethiopia’s position on de-escalation and emphasized the EU’s support for regional stability and constructive engagement.

The Secretary General briefed H.E. Ambassador Eshete about the objective and contribution of the ICMM work in the Military Medicine. He also stressed that the organization is committed to the exchange of knowledge not bound by geographical and ideological boundaries.
Ambassador Eshete underscore the importance of strengthening Medical knowledge sharing in the Military Field and stated Ethiopia’s contribution in various Peacekeeping Missions.

Brussels 03 July 2025, the Embassy of Ethiopia in Brussels hosted a significant event marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and the European Union, alongside the celebration of the presentation of credentials by H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun to the EU.
In a virtual address, H.E. Ambassador Hadera Abera, State Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the enduring partnership grounded in mutual cooperation, shared values, and political dialogue. Reflecting on Ethiopia’s homegrown reform agenda since 2018, he commended the EU’s support in democratic governance, institutional reform, and transitional justice. He emphasized Ethiopia’s eagerness to expand collaboration through the EU’s Global Gateway initiative, particularly in infrastructure, green energy, and digital development. Ambassador Hadera accentuate the importance of regional security in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, calling for sustained EU support in counterterrorism and peace efforts. H.E. Ambassador Hadera concluded his address by envisioning a future where Africa and Europe stand as equal partners addressing global challenges with mutual respect and shared responsibility.
Guest of Honor H.E. Ambassador Rita Laranjinha, Managing Director for Africa and representative of the European External Action Service, praised the evolving partnership’s transformation from development aid to a strategic and forward-looking alliance. She applauded Ethiopia’s reform progress and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting democratic governance, peacebuilding, and inclusive development. Highlighting the Global Gateway initiative, Ms. Laranjinha stressed its role in strengthening economic ties and advancing regional infrastructure, while calling for joint action on climate change, security, and migration. She concluded by affirming the EU’s readiness to work closely with Ethiopia towards a resilient, sustainable, and prosperous future.
H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun on his welcoming remark the partnership’s evolution, rooted in shared priorities such as climate action, peace, and inclusive growth. He acknowledged the EU’s historic support totaling over €3.7 billion in development funding and urged stronger implementation of the Global Gateway strategy. Citing Ethiopia’s economic and governance reforms along with ambitious green initiatives, Ambassador Eshete called for increased EU investment in agriculture and infrastructure, advocated for fair migration and environmental policies, and reaffirmed Ethiopia’s role as a key regional partner for peace and integration in the Horn of Africa.
The event also featured a photo exhibition organized by the Kilimandjaro Circle Saint-Louis in collaboration with the UCLouvain Saint-Louis culture unit, showcasing Ethiopia’s rich cultural, spiritual, and historical heritage. Ambassador Eshete and Ambassador Rita jointly planted seedlings as part of Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative. Guests enjoyed Ethiopian jazz performances, traditional cuisine and wine, and a customary coffee ceremony, celebrating the vibrant Ethiopian culture alongside the milestone diplomatic occasion.

Ambassador Eshete held the courtesy discussion with Ambassador Jennifer, Malta’s Representative to the EU Political and Security Committee on 30 June 2024.
Ambassador Eshete and H.E. Ambassador Jennifer discussed on bilateral, regional and global issues including the geopolitical realities.
Both Ambassadors agreed on the importance of maintaining a regular engagement and constructive dialogue on regional and global issues. They also highlighted areas of particular interest in bilateral cooperations between Ethiopia, Malta and European Union respectively.

The Fifth meeting of Ethiopia–European Union Joint Working Group (JWG) established under the admission procedures took place in Brussels on 27 June 2025, at DG HOME in the European Commission.
The Ethiopian delegation was led by Ambassador Abraham Mengistu, Director General for American and European Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia. He co-chaired the meeting alongside Ms. Silvena Pesta, Head of Return and Readmission at the European Union.
Ambassador Abraham underscored Ethiopia’s continued political commitment and operational efforts in addressing migration challenges. He also urged the European Union to take tangible steps toward Streamlining migration management according to commitments of different mechanisms.
EU Member States acknowledged Ethiopia’s constructive engagement and commitment to cooperate in this regard.
Both sides agreed to sustain their engagement and further strengthen their partnership to address migration related issues in the spirit of shared responsibility and collaboration.

ጁን 25 ቀን 2025 ዓ.ም. Gavi the Vaccine Alliance ከአውሮፓ ህብረት እና ጌትስ ፋውንዴሽን ጋር በመተባበር ባዘጋጁት ፣ ከ2026–2030 ቢያንስ 8 ሚሊዮን ህይወትን አደጋ ለመታደግ ፣ ዓለማችንን ከግጭት እና ከአየር ንብረት ለውጥ ለመከላከል ያለመ የቃል-መግባት (ገቢ ማሰባሰቢያ) ጉባኤ ላይ አገራችን በክብርት የጤና ሚኒስትር ዶ/ር መቅደስ ዳባ በኩል ተሳትፎ አድርጋለች።
በቃል መግባት ጉባዔው 10 የሀገር መሪዎች እና 24 ሚኒስትሮችን ጨምሮ 55 የለጋሽ እና ተባባሪ ሀገራት ተወካዮች እንዲሁም የባለብዙ ወገን ተቋማት ፣ሲቪል ማህበረሰብ ፣የግሉ ሴክተር እና የክትባት ኢንዱስትሪ መሪዎች ተሳትፈዋል።
ክብርት ሚኒስትር በጉባዔው ባስተላለፉት መልዕክት በክትባት አቅርቦት ላይ መዋዕለ ንዋይን በማፍሰስ የተሻለ ነገ እንዲፈጠር ጥሪ አስተላልፈዋል።
በጉባዔው ከ9 ቢሊዮን ዶላር በላይ አጋር አገራትና ለጋሾች ድጋፍ ለማድረግ ቃል ገብተዋል። በሚቀጥሉት ወራት ተጨማሪ ለጋሾች ቃል እንደሚገቡ ይጠበቃል። ጉባኤው በ Gavi African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator በኩል የአፍሪካ የክትባት ሉዓላዊነትን እንደሚደግፍ አረጋግጧል።
ክብርት ዶ/ር መቅደስ ከጉባዔው ማጠናቀቂያ በኋላ በብራሰልስ የኢ.ፌ.ዲ.ሪ. ኤምባሲ በመገኘት ከዲፕሎማቶች ጋር ውይይት አድርገዋል፣ በጋራ ስለሚሰሩ ስራዎችም ማብራሪያ ሰጥተዋል።

H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun and Deputy Head of Mission Ambassador Fortuna Dibaco participated on the annual joint meeting of Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) held on Tuesday 24 June 2025 in Luxembourg.

The platform aimed to provide opportunities for the OACPS Ambassadors and EIB Officials and Representatives to deliberate on strategic exchanges on matters of mutual interest and shared concerns.

The thematic discussions including those highlighted by the President and Vice Presidents of EIB have been fruitful. Exchange of viewd focusing on charting the way forward and clarifying key topics relevant priorities of the European Union Global Gateway initiative, the EIB financing modalities and partner countries clarified a number of issues. Ambassadors and EIB Representatives examine how the Global Gate Way initiative objectives will be achieved embracing transparency and inclusivity. They underscore also the importance of value addition related to critical raw materials, strengthening cooperation in addressing shared challenges and opportunities.

They further discussed the next steps for strengthening cooperation between the EIB and ACP countries to achieve tangible results that would make their part of the world become a better place.

Ambassador Eshete Tilahun held a courtesy call and bilateral meeting with Ambassador Philip Bob-Jusu, Ambassador of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the Benelux countries, at the Embassy of Ethiopia on 20 June 2025.
Ambassador Eshete underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Sierra Leone, within the framework of the Group of African Ambassadors in Brussels (GAAB). He emphasized the value of working together to advance shared African interests and priorities.
Ambassador Philip Bob-Jusu on his part expressed his appreciation for Ethiopia’s constructive role in championing African causes and Ethiopian’s proactive diplomatic engagement at multilateral forums. He commended Ethiopia’s ongoing development progress and the transformative changes taking place in the country.
Both Ambassadors agreed on the importance of maintaining open and constructive dialogue at all levels to effectively address issues of mutual concern.

Ambassador Eshete Tilahun Attends the Leiden University Annual Embassy Function
H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun and his team participated in the annual Embassy Event organized by, the 450 years old, Leiden University. The event been a platform for Embassies and Coountries to exchange views and seek opportunity for collaboration with the University.
During the visit, the Ambassador toured the historic Academy Building, the “Plant and Planet” Museum, and the Observatory. The insights into the University’s scientific and environmental endeavors provide life experience on the importance of excellence.
Ambassador Eshete also engaged in interactive discussion with the University Professors and fellow diplomats attending the event.
