Premier Calls For Extension of African Growth and Opportunity Act
August 28/2014 Prime Minister Hailemariam on Thursday, August 28, 2014 called on American Senators he met here in Addis Ababa to support the extension of African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
The PM held talks on agricultural development in Ethiopia, food processing, empowerment of women and health with US Agriculture Deputy Minister Krysta Harden and other five female senators.
The parties also discussed tourism, aviation, roles and benefits of women.
Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan agree on impact studies on Nile dam
Egypt, Ethiopia, and Sudan's irrigation ministers signed an agreement to conduct two studies to gauge the effects of Ethiopia's Grand Renaissance Dam on its neighbouring countries, state-run news agency MENA reported on Tuesday.
The dam has been a source of concern for the Egyptian government since May 2013, when images of its construction stirred public anxiety about the possible impact on Egypt's potable water supply.
A joint statement by the ministers after a two-day meeting in Khartoum revealed that the studies were suggested by the committee of international experts tasked to revise the dam's impact.An international consulting company will conduct the two studies.

Germany donates €750 thousand for refugees in Ethiopia
Germany has donated some 750,000 Euros to support relief operations by the World Food Program (WFP) for Somali, Eritrean and Sudanese refugees in Ethiopia.
In a statement, the German embassy said that the donation aims to enhance relief operations for refugees in eastern Africa, according to the Addis Zemen newspaper.

Nation achieves target for higher education admission
Addis Ababa, 16 August 2014 (WIC) - The Ministry of Education announced that Ethiopia has achieved the target set to raise higher education gross admission to 467,000 during the growth and transformation plan period.
The State Minister Dr Kaba Urgesa told ENA that currently gross admission for higher learning institutions both private and public institutions have reached over 500,000.
Over 18bln birr investment projects go operational
Addis Ababa, 16 August 2014 (WIC) - The Ethiopian Investment Commission said that some 226 investment projects with over 18.459 billion Birr aggregate capitals have gone operational last Ethiopian fiscal year.
Public relation directorate at the Commission, Getahun Negash said of the total projects some 125 with more than 14 billion birr capital are engaged in manufacturing, while the rest in agriculture and services, among others
