Ambassador Eshete Tilahun welcomed and held discussion with H.E. Ambassador Geela Ali of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Belgium and Head of Mission to the European Union, 6 February 2026.
The Ambassadors exchanged views about the working culture of the Bureau of the Committee of Ambassadors of the OACPS. Ambassador Eshete highlighted the role of the regional coordinator for the Eastern Africa Region Ambassadors Group (EAG) and issues of focus during the next six months when Maldives will assume the role of coordinating EAG. The two Ambassadors also exchanged views on the current situation of the OACPS Secretariat and the need to work closely together.

Today, 27 January 2026, Ambassador Eshete Tilahun met representatives from the COLEAD and discussed the scope and impact of its activities in Ethiopia. Ambassador Eshete underscored the importance of forging closer ties between the Embassy and COLEAD to streamline activities related to agricultural development, particularly in the horticultural value chain.
The COLEAD team delivered an in-depth briefing, highlighting programs such as MAHBER and AGRINFO, which are funded by the European Union and designed to advocate for and support capacity building of SMEs in the horticulture sector. The representatives stated technical assistance, and collaborative partnerships with local institutions including trainings are the priorities of COLEAD.
Ambassador Eshete Tilahun expressed appreciation for COLEAD’s initiative and urged the team to stay vigilant on delivering tangible results. He also emphasized the Embassy’s readiness to facilitate and strengthen coordination with COLEAD.

H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun confers with H.E. Ambassador Marc Pecsteen, Africa Director and Special Envoy for the Great Lakes at the Federal Public Service (FPS) Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Kingdom of Belgium and held a bilateral discussions.

The two Ambassadors exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on the upcoming celebration of the 120th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Belgium and ways to commemorate the milestone in a manner that reflects the depth and longevity of bilateral relations.

The discussion also included areas for cooperation aimed at further strengthening and deepening the longstanding bilateral partnership in relation of the two countries. In addition, the Ambassadors exchanged perspectives on local, regional, and international developments.

Today, 16 January 2025, H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun discussed with Mr. Christophe de CALLATAY, CEO of American European Community Association (AECA), on nurturing business relations with Ethiopia and strengthening collaboration between the Embassy and members of the Association.
Ambassador Eshete briefed Mr. Callatay about the wider and still expanding business opportunities in Ethiopia.
The two sides agreed to work together to organize a platform for members of AECA in view of encouraging companies interested in Agri-business, Manufacturing, Finance, Digitalization, Energy, and Mining sectors of Ethiopia.

Ethiopia Encourages Belgian Pharmaceutical Investment.
Today, 5 January 2026, Ambassador Eshete Tilahun met with two senior representatives from UCB, a leading Belgian pharmaceutical company, and discussed investment possibilities in Ethiopian. The meeting focused on exploring opportunities in Ethiopia’s rapidly growing healthcare sector, increasing local and regional demand including through the establishment of Regional Hub.
Ambassador Eshete explained about the investment climate, regulatory landscape, and potential areas of partnership that could be mutually beneficial. He emphasized the government’s commitment to welcoming foreign investors and highlighted ongoing reforms and policies aimed at supporting the pharmaceutical industry. He noted the relative advantage of investing in Ethiopia.
The UCB representatives expressed their keen interest in understanding the Ethiopian market and discussed the available avenues for collaboration.
The meeting concluded with UCB colleagues agreeing to further explore concrete steps that would take them to Addis Ababa to participate in March/April 2026 Business Forums, signaling a promising outlook.

The Ethiopian Delegation led by H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun, Governor of Ethiopia to the CFC is participating in the 37th Annual Meeting of the Common Fund for Commodities Governing Council, taking place on 9 and 10 December 2025, in The Hague, The Netherlands.
At today’s session, the Council discussed on wide range of issues to strengthen the organization’s capacity to support commodity-producing countries through financial and technical assistance. Value addition, humanizing value chains and sustainable market access which includes implementation of the CFC’s Strategic Framework for 2025-2035. The progress of new initiatives like the Commodity Impact Investment Facility (CIIF) and the Agricultural Commodities Transformation Fund (ACT).
The Governing Council has adopted the CFC Strategic Framework for the year 2025-2035, the CFC 2025 operational report, the CFC 2026 budget and 2024 audited financial statement. In his statement at the meeting, Ambassador Eshete Tilahun highlighted among others, Ethiopia’s potential in producing commodities including wheat. The endeavours and achievements of the government of Ethiopia in ensuring food security in particular heat resistant wheat production and combating climate change through the Green Legacy Initiative he noted.
While commending the efforts of the CFC in providing financial and technical support to the smallholder farmers and SMEs. Ambassador Eshete also underscored the need to diversify sources of financing to meet growing demands of the commodity producing countries, particularly the Least Developed and Land Linked Countries.
